Cubs fans always have a good time in the sun-drenched stands of Wrigley Field, but it’s good to see the players finally having some fun at the old ballpark too.
With the arrival of a new manager, a new attitude, and a new crop of young talent the Friendly Confines has seen a return to winning baseball and a lot of laughs from the boys in blue. Joe Maddon keeps the crew loose, and they do a pretty good job of goofing around themselves – including their new helmet-rubbing ritual.
The legend goes that the new tradition was born out of spark-plug utility man Jonathan Hererra teasing Starlin Castro about his odd habit of rubbing his head quickly when he found something funny. The next time Hererra reached base, he turned to Starlin and the dugout and gave the rub...then veteran David Ross mimicked the motion...and now the whole team signals each other from the basepaths with this goofy routine when it’s rally time!
It’s a bit baffling, but a lot of fun and exactly the kind of bonding, inside joke that we find so often on winning clubs! Show that you’re on-board with the silly antics, the plentiful rallies and the new winning ways at Wrigley with this fun new shirt that preps you for the next run-scoring opportunity. (For added fun, convince your friends to rub the helmet on the shirt to get a rally going!)
